Welcome from the Vancouver Welsh Men's Choir
A Short Story on our Long History
Formed in 1980 by a few enthusiastic members of the Vancouver Welsh Society, the Vancouver Welsh Men's Choir has grown to over one hundred singers from a variety of national and ethnic backgrounds. We offer a varied repertoire of Welsh songs, spirituals, folk, show tunes, and occasional zany antics, that always delights audiences both home and abroad.
The choir makes annual tours throughout British Columbia. International tours have taken us to the U.S., England, Wales, Holland, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, and Russia. In many cases we were invitees to special national celebrations such as Expo '86 in Vancouver, Expo '88 in Brisbane, the fiftieth anniversary of VE Day in 1995 at the Netherlands Groesbeek Cemetery of Canadian W.W.II soldiers, the London Welsh Millennium Festival of Choirs in the Royal Albert Hall in 2000, and the 300th Anniversary Celebration of the founding of St. Petersburg, Russia in 2003.
We celebrated our Silver Jubilee in June 2006 with a tour that took us to Boston, Miramichi, Summerside, Cape Breton and Halifax. Our host choirs included Boston's Saengerfest Male Chorus, the famed Men of the Deeps from Cape Breton and Nova Voce, Nova Scotia's acclaimed new male voice choir.
In June 2009 we travelled to central Europe for concerts in Berlin, Dresden, Prague, Salzburg and Vienna. We were well-received and helped raise thousands of dollars for charitable causes at benefit concerts organized by host choirs in Berlin and Ybbs, Austria.
June 2011 saw us in Northern British Columbia, on our first tour to that part of the province, singing in Prince Rupert and Prince George and communities in between. Our next international tour will take us to London in July 2012 where we have been invited to join a 1,000 voice men's choir in a Cultural Olympiad to celebrate the Summer Olympics.
